Ferrari launched the 456 in 1992 as a successor to the Ferrari 412. Production lasted until 2003, when it was succeeded by the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. It was available in two versions: the 456 GT and the 456 M GT. Like its predecessor, the Ferrari 456 was equipped with a V12 under the hood. The 5.5-liter twelve-cylinder squeezed out a power of 325 kW (442 hp) with a torque of 550 Nm. There is no difference between the two versions in terms of engine.
With the power from the V12, the 456 manages to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The Italian only stops accelerating at 310 km/h. This made it the second fastest four-seater in the world. It only had to tolerate the Porsche 959 in front of it.
The Ferrari 456 was initially only available with a manual six-speed gearbox. Later, in 1996, Ferrari expanded the possibilities with an automatic gearbox. These were called the 456 GTA. Although manual gearboxes are actually superior to the automatics of that time, the automatic gearbox does fit the character of the car better. The automatic gearbox in both the Ferrari 456 GT and the 456 M GT is a four-speed gearbox. The disadvantage of the automatic gearbox is that the top speed of the Ferrari 456 drops to ‘only’ 298 km/h and the 0 to 100 km/h time to 5.5 seconds, slightly slower than the version with a manual gearbox. The Ferrari 456 is always driven by the rear wheels.

Ferrari bracht de 456 in 1992 op de markt als opvolger van de Ferrari 412. De productie liep tot 2003, toen hij werd opgevolgd door de Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. Hij is in twee versies verkrijgbaar geweest: de 456 GT en de 456 M GT. Net als zijn voorganger werd de Ferrari 456 voorzien van een V12 onder de motorkap. De 5,5-liter twaalfcilinder perste er een vermogen uit van 325 kW (442 pk) met een koppel van 550 Nm. Er is geen verschil tussen beide versies wat betreft de motor.
Met het vermogen uit de V12 presteert de 456 het om vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u te sprinten in 5,2 seconden. De Italiaan stopt pas met accelereren bij 310 km/u. Daarmee was hij de op één na snelste vierzitter ter wereld. Hij moest enkel de Porsche 959 voor zich dulden.
De Ferrari 456 was in eerste instantie alleen te krijgen met een handgeschakelde zesbak. Later, in 1996, breidde Ferrari de mogelijkheden uit met een automaat. Deze werden aangeduid als 456 GTA. Hoewel handbakken eigenlijk superieur zijn aan de automaten in die tijd, past de automaat wel beter bij het karakter van de auto. Het nadeel van de automaat is dat de topsnelheid van de Ferrari 456 daalt naar ‘slechts’ 298 km/u en de 0 tot 100 km/u-tijd naar 5,5 seconden, iets langzamer dan de versie met handbak dus. De aandrijving van de Ferrari 456 vindt altijd plaats via de achterwielen.

Ferrari brachte den 456 1992 als Nachfolger des Ferrari 412 auf den Markt. Die Produktion wurde bis 2003 fortgesetzt, als sein Nachfolger der Ferrari 612 Scaglietti wurde. Es war in zwei Versionen erhältlich: dem 456 GT und dem 456 M GT. Wie sein Vorgänger war der Ferrari 456 mit einem V12 unter der Haube ausgestattet. Der 5,5-Liter-Zwölfzylindermotor schöpfte eine Leistung von 325 kW (442 PS) und ein Drehmoment von 550 Nm aus. Hinsichtlich des Motors gibt es keinen Unterschied zwischen den beiden Versionen.
Mit der Kraft des V12 sprintet der 456 in 5,2 Sekunden aus dem Stand auf 100 km/h. Erst bei 310 km/h hört der Italiener auf zu beschleunigen. Damit war er der zweitschnellste Viersitzer der Welt. Er musste nur den Porsche 959 vor sich ertragen.
Der Ferrari 456 war zunächst nur mit einem Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe erhältlich. Später, im Jahr 1996, erweiterte Ferrari die Optionen um ein Automatikgetriebe. Diese wurden als 456 GTA bezeichnet. Obwohl Schaltgetriebe den damaligen Automatikgetrieben tatsächlich überlegen sind, passt das Automatikgetriebe besser zum Charakter des Autos. Das Automatikgetriebe im Ferrari 456 GT und 456 M GT ist ein Viergang-Automatikgetriebe. Der Nachteil des Automatikgetriebes besteht darin, dass die Höchstgeschwindigkeit des Ferrari 456 auf „nur“ 298 km/h und die Zeit von 0 auf 100 km/h auf 5,5 Sekunden sinkt, was etwas langsamer ist als bei der manuellen Version. Elle est disponible en deux versions : la 456 GT et la 456 M GT. Comme sa devancière, la Ferrari 456 était équipée d'un V12 sous le capot. Le moteur douze cylindres de 5,5 litres développait une puissance de 325 kW (442 ch) avec un couple de 550 Nm. Il n’y a aucune différence entre les deux versions au niveau du moteur.
Grâce à la puissance du V12, la 456 peut passer de l'arrêt à 100 km/h en 5,2 secondes. L'Italien ne cesse d'accélérer qu'à 310 km/h. Cela en a fait la deuxième voiture quatre places la plus rapide au monde. Il lui suffisait de tolérer la Porsche 959 devant lui.
La Ferrari 456 n'était initialement disponible qu'avec une transmission manuelle à six vitesses. Plus tard, en 1996, Ferrari élargit les options avec une transmission automatique. Ceux-ci ont été désignés comme 456 GTA. Bien que les transmissions manuelles soient en réalité supérieures aux transmissions automatiques de l’époque, la transmission automatique correspond mieux au caractère de la voiture. La transmission automatique de la Ferrari 456 GT et de la 456 M GT est une transmission automatique à quatre vitesses. L'inconvénient de la transmission automatique est que la vitesse de pointe de la Ferrari 456 tombe à « seulement » 298 km/h et le 0 à 100 km/h à 5,5 secondes, soit un peu plus lent que la version manuelle.
